Join us for our members-only concert performance of two of Johann Sebastian Bach’s best-loved cantatas: Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme (‘Sleepers Awake’), BWV 140, and Herz und Mund und Tat und Leben (‘Heart and Mouth and Deed and Life’), BWV 147.

These new recordings bring together vocal recordings submitted by Choir of the Earth members around the world, following our four-week online Bach Cantatas course led by Musical Director Ben England, who will conduct live on screen during the concert for those who wish to sing along at home.

Wachet auf is based on the Lutheran hymn ‘Sleepers Wake!’, with Bach weaving its familiar chorale melody through the music in different ways. Herz und Mund und Tat und Leben was originally written for the Feast of the Visitation and includes the much-loved chorale with the tune commonly known as Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring.

Full and Associate Members will be the first audience to hear Choir of the Earth’s finished international choral performance of these cantatas, mixed in the studio from our singers’ recordings. Please join us - live or later - and enjoy this special performance!

⚠️ Please note: Following the concert you will receive an email on behalf of the University of Greenwich research team carrying out an academic study into social connections within Choir of the Earth, inviting you to complete a quick survey about your experience of the concert. We would so appreciate as much participation as possible in this survey as possible - thank you in advance!
