Ralph Allwood MBE DMus

Ralph Allwood MBE DMus

Ralph served for over twenty-five years as Director of Music at Eton College, where he trained generations of young singers. He now works internationally as a freelance choral director, teacher and conductor.

He is Founder and Artistic Director of the Rodolfus Foundation, a charity committed to choral education, where he leads the Rodolfus Choral Courses and the Rodolfus Choir, providing training, performance and recording opportunities for young singers from all backgrounds.

He is also Co-Founder and Trustee of the Pimlico Musical Foundation, which offers musical opportunities to both children and adults in Pimlico, and Co-Founder of Inner Voices, a choir bringing together talented singers from London state schools. Both initiatives reflect his commitment to widening access to choral music and building community through singing.

Alongside this work, Ralph is Director of Chapel Music at the Old Royal Naval College through Trinity Laban Conservatoire. He also teaches and supervises choral studies in Cambridge, holds an Honorary Fellowship of University College, Durham, and serves as Chair of the Choral Evensong Trust.

Ralph has conducted over forty broadcasts for BBC Radio 3, and composes and arranges choral music heard worldwide on radio, television and film.

He was appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the 2012 New Year’s Honours for services to choral music. In 2017 he received the Thomas Cranmer Award for Worship from the Archbishop of Canterbury, in recognition of his services to choral music in the Church of England and especially for fostering musical education among disadvantaged children.

Ralph is honoured to serve as the first Patron of Earth Choir Academy.
