A leading global online choir is inviting singers everywhere to take part in ‘Discover Choir of the Earth’ - a free online taster week designed to give people a chance to experience what it’s like to sing and rehearse with the Choir.

You are invited to take part in our ‘Discover Choir of the Earth’ week of open rehearsals - what can online singing do you for you?

From Monday 3 to Thursday 6 March 2025, Choir of the Earth will open its rehearsals to everyone.

Whether you are an experienced singer, someone who used to love choir but has not sung in years, or simply curious about online choral singing, this is the perfect opportunity to see how their rehearsals and resources work.

The rehearsals will premiere on YouTube and will be led by internationally renowned Musical Director and conductor Ben England BEM.

The week begins with a full choir rehearsal at 17:00 GMT on Monday 3 March 2025, followed by separate rehearsals for bass, soprano, alto, and tenor between Tuesday and Thursday. The full schedule is below.

Each rehearsal lasts around 45 minutes to an hour, and participants will learn and sing Sanctus, a short but uplifting movement from Joseph Haydn’s Harmoniemesse ("Harmony Mass").

Who is Discover Choir of the Earth for?

Choir of the Earth welcomes anyone who enjoys singing and has something to offer many different groups, including:

  • Those who miss being part of a choir - if you used to love singing but life got in the way, this is a relaxed way to rediscover it.

  • Shift workers - with rehearsals available on demand, you can take part at a time that works for you.

  • People at home a lot - whether due to health reasons, caring responsibilities, or other commitments, this is a great way to stay connected and enjoy music from home.

  • Those in remote areas - if you do not have a local choir nearby, Choir of the Earth brings the choir to you.

  • Keen choral singers - if you are looking to take your musical journey to a new level, Choir of the Earth offers in-depth learning, expert tuition, and the opportunity to be part of high-quality recordings.

How to Take Part

The rehearsals will be premiered on YouTube throughout the week, beginning on Monday 3 March at 17:00 GMT with a rehearsal for the full choir. Sectional rehearsals focusing on each voice part individually will then be held on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at times between 17:00 GMT and 20:00 GMT. The full schedule is below.

All rehearsals will be available to watch on demand after they premiere, allowing participants to take part at a time that suits them.

What makes Choir of the Earth different?

  • Choir of the Earth is open to everyone - no auditions and no minimum level of musical knowledge or experience required. Whether you are completely new to choral singing or a seasoned performer, you are welcome.

  • Ultimate flexibility - no travel, no pressure, no minimum attendance. Rehearsals are available live or later on demand, so you can sing at a time that suits you.

  • Sing without pressure - unlike Zoom-based virtual choirs, Choir of the Earth does not use webcams or microphones, so there is no need to worry about how you look or sound. Some in the Choir joke that, "In online choir, nobody can hear you screech!" Whether you are building confidence or refining your technique, you can sing freely without fear of making mistakes.

  • World-class tuition - learn from an award-winning teacher and conductor, with expert guidance and note-by-note teaching for each voice part.

  • The best learning resources - rehearsals use one-voice-louder tracks recorded by the exceptionally talented Fieri Consort and organist Richard Gowers. This replicates the experience of standing next to a strong singer in an in-person choir, making it easier to learn your part effectively - even if you do not read music. Many Choir of the Earth singers also say they have improved their vocal technique simply by hearing and mimicking professional singers of such high calibre.

  • A supportive global community - connect with friendly singers from around the world in live chat during rehearsals. Even though rehearsals are pre-recorded, the chat is live, with Choir of the Earth members and team on hand to answer questions and share experiences.

  • Tailor your experience - engage in live chat with other singers or ‘go full screen’ to focus entirely on the music.
