Quanta Qualia 3: Final Performance Unveiled!
On 12 December 2024, Choir of the Earth unveiled the final performance of our recent Quanta Qualia 3 project during a special concert performance livestream. Conducted live by Musical Director Ben England BEM, this event marked the first time singers and guests experienced the final mix, which combines recordings from 2020, 2021, and 2024.
The newly released music video, now available on YouTube, features stunning natural scenes from around the world and footage of cellist Laura Peribañez Artero in the recording studio. This rendition of Patrick Hawes' Quanta Qualia is believed to be the largest choral performance of the piece ever assembled, either live or online.
Reflecting on the project's scope, Ben England remarked, "I am so proud of the thousands of voices who took part in this recording over the past four and a half years."
Quanta Qualia holds a special place in the Choir's history. Our initial 2020 performance, featuring a saxophone solo by Sophie Burrows, became an anthem of hope during the challenging context of the pandemic. The 2021 rendition introduced a cello solo by Jiaxin Cheng/Lloyd Webber and a host of new singers who had discovered the joys of online choral singing. The 2024 version unites all of the previous recordings, plus new recordings submitted by global choristers this summer, culminating in a powerful expression of global unity through music.
The music video concludes with a message from the Choir of the Earth Team: "This recording consists of every voice that has taken part in our three Quanta Qualia sessions in 2020, 2021, and 2024 and is dedicated to our wonderful choristers. Thank you for an amazing five years of stunning music. Here's to many more years to come."
For those who wish to enjoy the performance offline or on the go, high-quality downloads of the audio track and video are available on the Choir’s website, as well as an 'Ultimate EP', featuring the original performances and videos plus brand new, unheard mixes: Get them here:
