Learn, sing and record Mahler's Eighth Symphony with the Bergen Philharmonic

Standing ovation at the Grieghallen at the end of the Bergen Philharmonic concert of Mahler 8 conducted by Edward Gardner. Choir of the Earth and Bergen Filharmoniske Orkester & Kor - Mahler 8 - Your voice in a global symphony - be part of the legend

Join Choir of the Earth any time between 4 November and mid-January to learn, sing, and record Mahler’s ‘Symphony of a Thousand’ with the incredible Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Edward Gardner OBE and taught by Ben England BEM.

On 4 June 2024, the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus performed Mahler’s Eighth Symphony in a performance that has received great acclaim from critics around the world and won awards in their native Norway.

Working closely with Choir of the Earth engineers, our partners in Bergen captured both the entire performance and the individual choral parts through headset mics worn by 16 professional singers during the performance.

We are now using these recordings as the foundation of our teaching resources for a truly extraordinary choral course, as hundreds of global singers learn, sing, and record Mahler’s Eighth Symphony, taught by our award-winning Musical Director, Ben England.

Ben will guide you note by note through Mahler’s complex choral lines with detail and precision, using expert techniques developed over 5 years of intensive online choral teaching.

Choir of the Earth's international singers will have the opportunity to add their voices to the recording, enhancing the original performance and blending the grandeur of the live concert with the richness of a global choral community.  Our choristers’ photos will also be digitally added to the video recording of the criticially-acclaimed concert in the Grieghallen, adding a truly immersive aspect to this exciting live/digital hybrid performance.

This course began on 4 November 2024 and will end on 16 January 2025, with a Christmas break between 20 December - 5 January inclusive.  Singers can join at any time during the course: all of our rehearsals are recorded, so you can catch up on any you’ve missed, whenever it suits you.  You can watch our Course Launch below for a taste of what’s in store:
