Learn, sing and record Handel’s Messiah

Join Choir of the Earth from 30 June 2025 for a fresh new opportunity to learn, sing and record Handel’s masterpiece in an entirely new way!

Search Google or ask ChatGPT to tell you what the most performed choral work in the world is, and you’ll get the same answer: Handel’s Messiah.  The Hallelujah chorus is so firmly embedded in our culture that it would be difficult to find someone who isn’t familiar with its main tune.

This is a new opportunity to learn Messiah in a depth that just isn’t possible in local choirs.  Even for those who have sung and recorded Messiah with us before, this will be a whole new experience, 5 years on from our first ever course, Messiah At Home.  This is no “lockdown project” - over the past five years, Choir of the Earth, led by our marvellous Musical Director Ben England, has worked hard to refine our teaching process, incorporating new techniques and cutting-edge technology to elevate the online learning experience.

Hands place hearts with musical notes on them into a COTE/ECA donation box. Text reads: Help us create the ultimate choral resources for Handel's Messiah. Support our Crowdfunder and fund expert recordings that will guide generations of singers.

We are running a Crowdfunder to help us fund these superb new learning resources, not just for this course, but for generations to come through our new Choir of the Earth Library.  Click here to learn more, including how to get your hands on an  invitation to our exclusive pre-course preview concert!

This course will feature brand new vocal learning tracks, recorded exclusively for us by the renowned Fieri Consort.

Combined with our existing baroque orchestral accompaniment, featuring prominent musicians led by harpsichordist Laurence Cummings, and our original solos from world-class singers including Carolyn Sampson and Ashley Riches, we will offer an exceptional foundation for our new performance, and an unmatched standard of learning resources.

Led by the brilliant Ben England, the course will guide you through every movement of Handel’s Messiah, with Ben’s in-depth teaching supported by the latest advances in online choral teaching, including exciting new ‘living score’ software that allows you to interact with the music in a way that has never been possible before for Messiah.

Throughout the course, you will be invited to record yourself singing along at home, following which our audio engineers - world leaders in digital choral mixing - will use cutting-edge developments to create a brand-new performance of Messiah!

You can learn and sing as many voice parts as you like, and submit as many recordings as you like... or none at all - Choir of the Earth is your choral journey to experience however you wish.

The course will run from 30 June until 16 October 2025, with a two-week summer break in August (dates TBC).  If you have vacation plans, don’t worry about missing out - all of our live rehearsals are recorded and available ‘on demand’, so you can catch up whenever it suits you.

The final recorded performance will premiere as our Christmas 2025 concert - share it with your friends and family no matter where they are in the world, and enjoy it time and time again.

Whether you have never been part of a choir before, or you have sung Messiah dozens of times, this course will give you the chance to get to know Handel’s masterpiece like never before.
