Choir of the Earth Christmas Concert 2024: J.S. Bach's Magnificat

The link to the concert stream on YouTube will be posted here soon

On Friday 20 December 2024 at 19:00 GMT, join Choir of the Earth for our captivating Christmas Concert for 2024, where we will perform Johann Sebastian Bach’s Magnificat.

Bach’s Magnificat was first performed at the Christmas Vespers service on 25 December 1723 at the Thomaskirche in Leipzig, conducted by the composer himself. The Magnificat is based on Mary’s Song of Praise, a passage from the Gospel of Luke. In it, Mary, the mother of Jesus, visits her cousin Elizabeth and tells her she has been visited by God and will give birth to the Messiah. The song expresses Mary’s gratitude and reverence for God's mercy and might, and marks an important and touching moment in the nativity story.

This performance marks the culmination of our recent course, where singers worldwide united to learn and record this baroque masterpiece between September and November 2024.  Every singer’s contribution to this recording comes together to create an authentic and uplifting choral performance, showcasing the natural beauty of our global Choir’s combined voices.

We are thrilled that our singers will be joined in their performance by a truly magnificent organ accompaniment from the wonderful Richard Gowers, plus vocal solos from the phenomenal Fieri Consort, who also provided our singers’ rehearsal tracks for this fabulous course.

The concert will be conducted by our marvellous Musical Director, Ben England BEM, streamed live on our YouTube channel.  We invite everyone to join us, either live if you can, or later at the same link when it suits you.

This fantastic concert is free for all to enjoy, although donations to Earth Choir Academy are of course very welcome. Every donation - big or small - helps our non-profit organisation bring the joy of choral singing and music education to people worldwide.

Celebrate the spirit of togetherness and the magic of the season with us. Whether you're a long-time choir member or new to our community, we invite you to be part of this festive musical event.

P.S. Don’t forget to bring your headphones to experience this impressive performance with the best possible sound quality.
