Brahms Requiem (part of the Requiems at Home series)

Course launch 24 August 2020
Course Director Harry Bradford

About this course

In 2020, The Self-Isolation Choir launched Requiems at Home - a series of courses devoted to some of the most significant requiems in the choral repertoire. The series responded to the choir’s growing demand for large-scale sacred works and provided an opportunity for singers to study and perform these pieces through a combination of recorded and live online learning.

This Brahms’ Requiem course was led by conductor Harry Bradford, who taught the work through a complete set of pre-recorded rehearsals. Participants were invited to learn and record both the choral and solo movements, singing in the original German.

Harry taught the work using an exclusive new recording created especially for the course, performed by his chamber choir, Recordare, accompanied by pianist Richard Gowers. The arrangement reflected Brahms’ own 1871 piano version used for the London premiere.

Concert Performances: 4 February 2021 | 19 March 2021
