A new season begins - Choir of the Earth to launch A Season to Sing

Choir of the Earth is preparing to launch a major new online choral course centred on Joanna Forbes L’Estrange’s exciting new choral work, A Season to Sing. Beginning on Wednesday 8 April 2026 at 18:00 UTC+1 (UK time), the seven-week course will invite singers everywhere to learn, sing and record this vibrant new work, inspired by Vivaldi’s Four Seasons.

Already premiered by choirs around the world, A Season to Sing has quickly established itself as one of the most exciting new works in contemporary choral music. Choir of the Earth’s new course will make the piece accessible in a distinctive new way, becoming the first online choir to learn and perform it together as a global community.

The course will be led by Choir of the Earth’s knowledgeable and charismatic Musical Director, Ben England, with composer Joanna Forbes L’Estrange also playing an important part in the teaching. Alongside Ben’s live online rehearsals, Joanna is recording bespoke videos especially for Choir of the Earth members, exploring the background and creation of the work, and offering performance guidance and vocal technique support directly from the composer herself.

Across seven weeks, singers will benefit from one full choir rehearsal and one sectional rehearsal for each voice part every week, supported by the Choir’s high-quality learning resources. Participants will also be able to choose to learn, sing and record more than one voice part if they wish.

A Season to Sing is a choral reimagining of Vivaldi’s much-loved Four Seasons. Structured around Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter, it draws on familiar melodies from Vivaldi’s concertos while weaving together poetry, scripture and new text to create a colourful and expressive journey through the seasons. The result is a work full of energy, contrast and imagination, with playful elements such as body percussion and whistling alongside more traditional choral singing.

As with all Choir of the Earth courses, singers will not need previous choral experience to take part. The Choir’s innovative and holistic teaching approach is designed to help singers build skills and confidence step by step, with expert guidance and resources that support learning at home. All that is needed is a willingness to learn and to practise with the materials provided.

Singers taking part will need to purchase their own copy of the score; A Season to Sing is available from the RSCM shop in both printed vocal score and ebook formats.

The course launch will give singers an opportunity to discover more about this exciting project and see exactly what Choir of the Earth’s online approach can offer. For anyone looking to explore an acclaimed new choral work with expert teaching, direct composer insight and the support of a worldwide singing community, A Season to Sing offers a wonderful opportunity to get involved.
