Musical Medleys 1

with input especially for this course from the composer of
Les Misérables:

Claude-Michel Schönberg

The SIC now brings you the chance to sing and record your own voice for a special SIC performance of:

The Sound of Music & Les Misérables

We present two medleys featuring songs from each. We also feature a welcome video from Claude-Michel Schönberg, composer of Les Misérables, who has honoured us with a personal comment to those of us who take part in the course.

We feel it is important to enjoy our singing and so we offer a wide range of courses to sing with one over-riding theme for everything - it’s all great music.

Course Director

We are delighted to welcome Libby Crabtree as our brand new Course Director for the SIC. Libby is in demand as an experienced director of large scale choral performances and has conducted works including Handel’s Israel in Egypt, John Ireland’s These Things Shall Be and Faure’s Requiem. She also directs chamber choirs, conducts high profile charity concerts in Edinburgh’s Usher Hall, and leads workshops for The Sixteen’s Choral Pilgrimage programme.

While at Cambridge University, Libby sang with Clare College Chapel Choir and Cambridge University Chamber Choir before going on to lead a busy professional singing life. She recorded, performed and toured worldwide with The Sixteen, The Tallis Scholars and The King’s Consort for over 20 years. Her many solo recordings are highly acclaimed, most notably for Decca Records singing a duet with Renee Fleming and ensembles with Sir Bryn Terfel (Mendelssohn’s Elijah).

Libby is ideally suited to run a musicals course as she performed for a year on London’s West End (Return to the Forbidden Planet) where she was also assistant MD. In addition, she appeared on TV and toured nationally with a jazz cabaret group - performing original material and Broadway show songs.

Please see more about Libby on her website www.libbycrabtree.org

How it will work

Libby will use her own backing tracks with the voices recorded by herself and Ben Parry, who we have seen on other SIC courses, notably The Beatles and How Do You Keep The Music Playing. Using these backing tracks, Libby will teach these medleys in LIVE sessions on our broadcasting channels - this is not Zoom. Do not worry, we shall give you details of how to join these LIVE sessions. They are available to watch at anytime, so if you have to miss a session, you can catch up later.

At the end of the course, we shall ask you, if you wish, to record your own voice and send this to us. We shall combine all voices in the studio with the orchestral score in the two videos above and play the result back to you in a Concert Performance. Again, you will be sent details on how to do this.
