Mozart Requiem

Mozart died at the age of 35 in Vienna on 5th December 1791 whilst composing his Requiem. As we all know, it was never completed. Of all the ironies in human art, it is quite extraordinary that the genius who left us so much exquisite music was buried (almost thrown) in a mass grave because he had no money for a proper burial.

230 years later, The Self-Isolation Choir comes to learn, record, perform and share our own version of this remarkable Requiem. Led by Ben England BEM, we shall learn the entire piece in LIVE online rehearsal sessions from home in separate voice part sessions, which you can watch end enjoy at any time. We shall email you all the rehearsal links.

How It Works

The Self-Isolation Choir will learn the Requiem in online rehearsal sessions on our broadcasting channel. These take the form of a weekly FULL CHOIR rehearsal followed by afternoon sessions for each voice part.

We learn the piece online from home with Ben England BEM and our backing music is provided by a specially recorded version of Mozart’s Requiem for this course. We have commissioned our own new recording of the work with Richard Gowers on the organ and The Fieri Consort singing all parts for us. Ben will also teach us all the solo parts as well, so that we can be the soloist too.

For those who know this well and have always wanted to sing the solos!

We shall separate these Fieri voices into the four voice parts so that you can learn your own voice part in your own time. We shall also supply a mix WITHOUT each voice part and one with each voice part LOUDER than the rest.

We are holding a Full SIC Concert with all our voices combines at 19:00 on 31st March 2021

Recording

After the first concert, we will open the studio for your audio recordings and headshot picture for inclusion in the Choir Mosaic picture. We require these by 3rd March 2021 at 22:00
