Evensong in Finland
Join Choir of the Earth and Tapiola Chamber Choir for a full-day Come and Sing event in Espoo, near Helsinki, Finland, followed by an informal evening reception and captivating kantele workshop in central Helsinki.
Olari Church, Saturday 24 August 2024
We are excited to visit Finland this summer as an optional part of our August 2024 Summer School course.
We invite Choir of the Earth members - plus friends old and new! - to join us at a Come and Sing day in Espoo, Finland (near Helsinki), where we will learn and perform gems of British sacred music with a Finnish twist, in an international setting.
The Come and Sing event will start at 10:00 (local time) at Olari Church on Saturday 24 August 2024.
A day of workshops will be led by Choir of the Earth’s charismatic Musical Director Ben England BEM with support from the wonderful Tapiola Chamber Choir.
You will then perform the pieces at a special Evensong service at 17:00 (local time), which will be screened to a global audience.
After the Evensong service, we invite you to an informal catered reception in central Helsinki, where there will also be an engaging and entertaining kantele workshop led by Susanna Heinonen and Satu Sopanen from Kanteleliitto - The Finnish Kantele Association.
The kantele is Finland's national instrument and a lot of fun to play. Kanteles will be provided, though you are very welcome to bring your own if you have one.
Did you know that our very own Ben was awarded the Kantele Of The Year Award in 2022? Watch him in conversation with Susanna and Satu and learn more about the kantele here.
