The Lord’s Prayer
Taken from David Fanshawe’s 1972 masterpiece, AFRICAN SANCTUS, The Lord’s Prayer is an exquisite short piece for Soprano and Alto voices only, although in true The Self-Isolation Choir tradition, we sang a special version for Tenors and Basses.
In African Sanctus the Latin Mass is juxtaposed with live recordings of traditional African music, which the composer had recorded himself between 1969 and 1973 during a journey up the Nile, from the Mediterranean Sea to Lake Victoria. The work consists of 13 movements and follows the journey of the composer through Africa. The Lord’s Prayer is taken from this.
Under the wing of our lovely course Director Ellie Slorach, we were taught The Lord’s Prayer through a series of live rehearsals. Our voices were then recorded and mixed entirely in isolation, which can now be listened to below.
