KIRJOITTAA ON MINULL' MIEL - PRONUNCIATION
Below are two videos on the pronunciation of one of our August pieces Kirjoittaa on minull' miel. We hope you find them useful.

Rolling Your 'R's in Finnish
-
I propose to write / About the wretchedness of this world.
It is time to take the path / And arise from sleep,
To turn away from evil / And embrace virtue.
Rise up and be vigilant, / And be ever ready.
Where are they / Who lived before us?
Thou must enter the sepulchre / If thou dost want to see them.
They are become ash and dust / And have rotted in the ground.
Rise up and be vigilant, / And be ever ready.
We are born into this world /With pain and woe,
And we live under strain / And arduous labour. /
Finally death gathers us /With dolour. / Rise up and be vigilant,
And be ever ready.
This life is brief / And ends shortly.
Death rides speedily / And overlooks no one.
Death flies over all / And has mercy for no one.
Rise up and be vigilant, / And be ever ready.
O! If thou only couldst know / The joy of the blessed in heaven,
Thou wouldst never seek /The vanity of the world,
But wouldst serve with rejoicing / The Lord of the angels.
Rise up and be vigilant, / And be ever ready.
Thou canst avoid perdition / If thou studiest this while alive,
If thou dost repent truly / And believe in Christ;
Living a godly life, /Thou shalt depart from here joyfully.
Rise up and be vigilant, / And be ever ready.

DROPBOX SUBMISSION LINKS
Starting from Summer School 2024, we will ask you to use the SAME Dropbox for a piece, whether you recorded live along with the rehearsal or later with the conducting video. This is because the conducting video is now cut directly from the “conducting track mode” part of the full rehearsal, so everything will match up anyway.
The only exception might be where “chunks” are involved but we will explain this when it arises. In the meantime please assume: “one piece, one Dropbox”. Thank you!

COME AND SING EVENSONG IN FINLAND
On Saturday 24 August 2024, we held a special ‘come-and-sing’ day in Finland, which featured our August Summer School pieces. The day was led by Ben and included singing with the Tapiola Chamber Choir at the Olari Church in Espoo, near Helsinki.
The event involved workshops to rehearse these pieces, followed by an Evensong service with a Finnish twist, and concluded with an informal evening reception and kantele workshop in central Helsinki. Special thanks go to members of COTE and Tapiola, Susanna Heinonen and Hannu Ryynänen, for all their help this this project, from recording guide tracks for Kirjoittaa on minull' miel, to arranging everything ‘on the ground’ in Finland.
If you missed the livestream of the Evensong service at the Olari Church, you can watch the recording here:
